2006 CSX Santa Train



The 2006 Santa Train arriving in Marrowbone, KY. Santa's helper restocks the platform for the next stop as Santa waves at us.
Alison Krauss was this year's celebrity guest.  To learn more about Alison  Click Here Fremont probably had the biggest crowd along the route.
Everyone is waiting on Santa and Alison in Marrowbone. Waiting at Allen siding the Santa Train heads toward Dante, VA.
The 2006 Santa Train arrives in Elkhorn City, CSX SD40 #8474 leads the way. The lead unit passes Union Baptist Church located in Dante, VA.
Noel (left) CSX supervisor out of Erwin. Everett retired from CSX, has seniority back to CRR days.  The engineer stops the train right beside a NB empty coal train waiting on Santa.
Elkhorn City had a good crowd waiting for Santa and his helpers. Standing on VA. 63 hwy. bridge the train runs along side Lick Creek in Hamlin, VA.
Miss Virginia is one of Santa's helpers this year seen here in Elkhorn City. St. Paul is ready for Santa!
Crossing over Pool Point bridge you can see Russell Fork river below. The St. Paul crowd kept Santa & Alison busy as they passed out candy and toys.
Santa Train enters the Breaks Interstate Park crossing Pool Point. For more info on the Breaks Click Here Located at Carfax, VA. which isn't easy to get to but a great spot for catching trains.     
Arriving in Haysi, VA. the lead unit passes the crowd waiting for Santa. Looking down from VA. hwy 619 Santa arrives in Fort Blackmore.
Haysi is located just south of the Breaks Interstate Park. Norfolk Southern waiting on Santa at Starnes. NS has trackage rights over CSX to Frisco, TN.
As it arrives into Clinchco there wasn't a great location with the sun. The Santa Train crossing Copper Creek Viaduct
A local church had coffee and other items, as you could tell it was pretty cold. Copper Creek is about 1100' long, 167' tall & it's a hike to get to the tracks. 
At milepost 18.4 it exits Rinehart tunnel just outside Clinchco, VA. Last stop for me this year but Santa continued to Kingsport for the parade.
